• OPS – This statistic adds on-base percentage (OBP) and slugging percentage (SLG) to get one number that unites the two. It’s meant to combine how well a hitter can reach base, with how well he can hit for average and for power. As a result, OPS is widely considered one of the best evaluative tools for hitters.
  • OBP – On Base Percentage (H + BB +HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + Sac). This stat looks at all instances of getting on base, except for errors, divided by all the times a player had a official plate appearance. The short form of this is (H +BB) / PA.
